Graduate Consultant

A vacancy exists within Hafren Water for a numerate, energetic and articulate graduate to work within our small environmental water management consultancy. Training will be provided to develop skills in the fields of hydrology and hydrogeology. Excellent long-term opportunities exist within our growing and well-regarded organisation.


A BSc degree in earth science, geology, environmental science or a closely allied subject is required. Some knowledge of water matters, such as flood risk, hydrology or hydrogeology would be a distinct advantage. Candidates should also possess ‘A’ levels in geography, sciences and / or mathematics.

Role: The remit of the post is wide, but consists primarily of supporting the senior staff in undertaking their projects. Input is likely to include GIS work (including figure preparation), data collation and processing, fieldwork and some factual reporting. Data collation would involve liaison with the relevant authorities and acquiring data from publically available databases etc.

Training: Long-term career prospects are excellent within the Company, hence effort will be applied to comprehensively develop the right candidate. Training will be provided in-house and also by attendance at appropriate external events. This may include attendance at training events and seminars.

Contract: The post is permanent, subject to successful completion of a 6-month probation period.

Salary and conditions: The post attracts a salary of £16,000 to £17,000 dependant on qualifications and experience. The salary would be reviewed on completion of the probation period. Annual reviews of performance and salary apply, which is standard practice within the organisation. We also operate a profit sharing scheme and optional contributory pension in place.

Flood Risk Hydrologist

We are currently looking for an experienced Flood Risk Hydrologist to join the team at Hafren Water. Based in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, we are a growing team that operates throughout the UK. We are looking for someone with:

  • 5-10 years-experience, including employment with a reputable consultant

  • Environment Agency employment, or very good working knowledge of EA, NRW, SEPA and LLFA requirements

  • Good working knowledge of rainfall run-off methodologies (eg FEH, REFH)

  • Proven ability with industry standard 1D, 1D/2D linked and 2D modelling software, including:

ISIS/Flood Modeller Pro
Micro Drainage

  • Excellent report writing and oral communication

  • Excellent organisational skills

  • Commercially aware; working to deadlines and budgets

The position would suit someone who is self-motivated, looking for a new challenge and the opportunity to make the role their own. The successful candidate will be highly practical and able to produce both quantitative and qualitative flood risk assessments. Input to non flood-related hydrological projects is also highly likely to be required.
